Willow Funkhouser is a collaboration-obsessed, consent-focused, Brooklyn-based director and intimacy/movement choreographer. She is drawn to work about women, flesh, and messy relationships. She has found a home in highly physical pieces that embrace athleticism, sweat, breath, and bodies as storytelling tools. Willow grew up as a classically trained dancer, and her dance background informs all of her directing and intimacy work.

Recent Intimacy credits include world premieres of Degenerates at Playwrights Horizons (New York Times Critic’s Pick) and benevolent with Good Apples Collective (New York Times Critic’s Pick). Her other work has been developed and performed at New World Stages, Edinburgh Fringe, Keen Company, Soho Playhouse, The Brick, Theater Row, Syracuse Stage, Delaware Rep, and Amant as well as universities including Sewanee University, NYU, Columbia, and Long Island University. She is also a proud member of Good Apples Collective and an alum of Directors Lab North.

Her intimacy work for film includes the feature films Tox, Souvenir, Occupied, and dozens of short films.

Willow holds a degree from Syracuse University where she developed a course of study in intimacy practice alongside directing and has since completed extensive training with leading intimacy organizations. She has lectured on Intimacy, Consent and Power Dynamics at New York Film Academy.
